New start-up

Could it be the first electronics funding deal of 2008? An Edinburgh-based start-up has just received £2m of investment from VC firm Braveheart, the Siemens Technology Accelerator and the Scottish Venture Fund.

Pyreos has patented IP for infrared sensor materials and devices from Siemens. The company actually has a close working relationship with Siemens. If you have a partner the size of Siemens before you even have your product fully developed, you’re really well ahead of the game. Siemens will help bring to market and manufacture Pyreos’ initial range of infrared sensor array products.

The firm’s target market is motion detection, infrared camera and spectroscopy products.

Pyres is based at the Scottish Microelectronics Centre in Edinburgh, which incubated MicroEmissive Displays as well.
