I feel worried about what I can bring into being next. Having joked about ‘start-up island’ yesterday, low and behold the BBC today says it is in fact Mauritius.
According to their report:
Youngsters are now the firm target of a five-year plan at the end of which the government aims to have computer literacy sky-rocketing.
So that’s it, no more joking, the race is officially on to make that high-tech island paradise. I nominate the Isle of Wight, behind all those twitching lace curtains teams of enthusiastic techies are working day and night on silicon start-ups.
So forget Silicon Valley, move to the Isle of Silicon (Wight).

Hey, stop knocking the Isle of Wight!
There are quite a few small companies here doing pioneering work in the Electronics Industry.
Among them are firms designing and making X ray dosage meters, Water treatment plant control, Radar, Microwave amplifiers, Audio, Marine Electronics, etc.
I have a small design consultancy, developing electronics for audio and vibration monitoring.
Unfortunately, It's all for clients in Switzerland, Austria, and Germany, who will eventually export the products back here.
It seems the UK has totally lost it's pride.
