"Bringing the power of a desktop to a laptop" is how Intel describes its new fastest laptop chips. File the quad-core 45nm chips under "Clarksfield" - they bring the underlying Nehalem microarchitecture to the mobile market.
The new Intel Core i7 mobile processors include two-channel DDR3 1333 MHz memory support and full 1 x16 or 2 x8 PCI Express 2.0 graphics. They feature Turbo Boost and Hyper-Threading across each core. They work with the new Intel PM55 Express Chipset.

[On the effect of Turbo Boost] "Basically, if two or more cores are sitting unused, and the processor isn't running too hot or drawing too much current, Turbo mode kicks in and ups the speed of the remaining cores. For the i7-820QM, this can take the stock speed of 1.73GHz up to a maximum of 3.06GHz, while the i7-720QM and i7-920XM push up to 2.8GHz and 3.2GHz respectively," writes Sasha Muller.There are actually three new chips, the Core i7 720 (1.6GH 6MB cache), the 820 (1.73GH, 8MB cache) and the 920 (2GHz, 8MB cache, aka the Extreme Edition).
