SVHCs-what’s in the crystal ball for 2013?
Sixty Seven new REACH Substances of Very High Concern, or SVHCs, were added to the so called Candidate List for authorisation in 2012.
From 2008 through to 2011 the number of SVHCs added to the Candidate List was 15, 14, 17 and 25 respectively.
So what’s in the pipeline for 2013?
Well, so far there are 18 substances where it is proposed to submit a dossier and many of these could well be proposed as SVHCs this year. Of the 18 Germany has proposed 9 and Sweden 3.
Based on this we should expect 30 or more new SVHCs this year.
Since 2008, other than ECHA themselves, Germany has been the most prolific at preparing dossiers and proposing SVHCs followed by France, Holland, Austria and Norway.
