BIS publishes RoHS2 Guidance Notes
The Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) has published Government Guidance Notes for the RoHS Recast, or RoHS2, which comes into effect on 2 January 2013. The document covers the law in brief, scope, compliance and enforcement.
Also to come before year end is a final revision of the European Commission Frequently Asked Question document.
There were 60 responses to the consultation on the Recast and there is likely to be amended wording on such as cable and the use of random RoHS substances. The stakeholder responses will also be published.
NMO, the Enforcement Authority responsible for RoHS in the UK, will also publish their own guidelines.
As industry comes to terms with RoHS2 we can advise that work is already taking place on RoHS2.1 which is expected by the end of 2014. This will address, as a minimum, the BIO Intelligence Services and ERA impact assessment as well as article 2.2, exclusions and exemptions.
