Still time to comment on RoHS FAQs

Stakeholder comments on the current version of RoHS “Frequently asked Questions” can be submitted until 14 September 2012. The RoHS Recast  2011/65/EU must be transposed into national laws by 2 January 2013 across European Member States. Until that date directive 2002/95/EC (RoHS1) will remain valid.

The FAQ document is intended to help economic operators interpret the provisions of the RoHS Recast in order to ensure compliance with the Directive’s requirements. The document may be revised in the future.

Subjects covered in the 28 pages of the document include scope, including article 2.2 and large-scale exclusions, cables, open scope, components, CE marking and declarations of conformity, substance restrictions and exemptions.

The R&D exclusion will disappoint semiconductor manufacturers who were hoping “development kits” would be excluded from the scope.
