WEEE Recast published in the OJ
On 24 July 2012, the “recast” of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union. As normal the Directive will enter into force 20 days later.
Member States will have until 14 February 2014 to transpose into national law.
There are a number of significant changes to the current Directive including the reduction of the number of product categories to six as outlined in Annex III.
Following a transitional period the Directive will become “open scope” from 15 August 2018.
Exclusions from scope include the usual military, large-scale fixed installations, large -scale stationary industrial tools as well as non-road mobile machinery.
