Green manufacturing on the South Downs of Sussex
An environmentally-friendly approach to manufacturing is flourishing on the south downs of West Sussex.
Artetch Circuits has completed a ninth successful audit on its BSI Environmental Management System accreditation known as the BS EN ISO 14001.
The Littlehampton-based circuit board manufacturer’s approach to green issues means it has also identified further recycling opportunities that will greatly reduce the waste that goes to landfill.
According to managing director Martin Morrell: “There is no doubt that the accreditation really makes us consider our business approaches.”
“For example,” says Morrell, “our reducing waste going to landfill is not only better for the environment but also ensures we pay less for the cost of burying commercial waste. In the current economic climate that is a winning combination.”
Another aspect of the firm’s approach is to involve its staff in environmental initiatives. “We hold regular working groups involving all staff, to focus on improvements and run through energy saving ideas,” says Morrell.
“We have already seen a reduction in our Carbon Footprint and are well on target to lower our Co2 admissions by 5% this year,” adds Morrell.
