Welcome to the new look ElectronicsWeekly.com
What’s the thinking behind the new look home page?
Well, over the past few months we’ve been working slowly but steadily to improve elements of the site in general and the homepage in particular, and I’m pleased to say that all the changes are now live. Hopefully you find the layout clearer and less cluttered, and it will be easier to find the content of interest on Electronics Weekly.
We carried out reader research earlier in the year and have been working to put the feedback into practice in stages. A number of points came back strongly
* “Homepage too full and busy, needs to be clearer”
* “Too many items on the Navigation Bar”
We have rationalised the list (slightly, and there may be more changes) to reduce the number of tabs and rename some.
* “The quality of search on Electronics Weekly”
This has long been a sore point for us but we have now moved to Google SiteSearch and have improved the styling of the search box. Powered by mighty Google, it is now much easier to find relevant content (refining searches by content type (blog, article, etc) and search type (by relevancy or by date)).
* “A greater visibility of Social Media links”
Hopefully there is no missing the links to our Twitter feed, our LinkedIn pages, our YouTube channel, or opportunities to sign up for email newsletters or consume our RSS feeds!
* “Too many adverts”
We have refined the number and placement of advertisements on the homepage. They are a crucial element of the site – as they pay for all our wages! – but we believe the new layout makes the adverts work more effectively, in a stronger fashion. A win-win resolution we hope.
Thank you for the feedback
Of course, the Web never sleeps and we will continue to improve the website, but I hope you find the changes positive. We’ve listened to the feedback we received and hope that the changes enable you to access and find the information you like more quickly.
Let us know what you think, or share any tweaks or improvements we should consider. We are still listening! Email me at webmaster@electronicsweekly.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
