China now Number One for Android and iOS activations
One to note, as a historic flag in the sand perhaps… IT-Pro Portal is reporting that China – not the US – now has the largest number of Android and iOS activations.
Emma Hay writes:
What is surprising is that in January last year, China only accounted for 8 per cent of the world’s activations. Today it is responsible for 24 per cent, having overtaken the US in February. Currently, the US is responsible for 21 per cent. China has grown 6 per cent in its number of activations in the last three months alone.
The source of the story is apparently analytics firm Flurry, although these is nothing on the News section at the moment.
Bloomberg Business Week is also quoting the story – see China Passes U.S. in Android, Apple Activations – and Olga Kharif quotes a Flurry report:
“With China now activating more devices per month than the U.S., this means that the gap is closing between the two countries in terms of installed base,” Flurry said in the report. “Not only is China already the second largest app economy, but also could eventually overtake the U.S. as the country with the largest installed base of smart device users.”
