Twitter takes Cover for Android focus
The battle for the Android home screen continues a-pace.
In a sharpening of Twitter’s mobile focus, it has bought the start-up Cover, reports the Wall Street Journal.
The company makes a (beta) app that lets you determine which applications are shown on the home screen depending on where you are (“Automatically see different apps at home, in the car, at work, and when you’re out.”).

The acquisition also reinforces Twitter’s mobile-first approach. Over 75% of Twitter users access the service through their mobile devices. As more and more apps compete for the user’s attention, Cover’s acquisition could help keep Twitter top of mind.

Twitter, like Cover, believes in the incredible potential of Android. They share our vision that smartphones can be a lot smarter — more useful and more contextual — and together we’re going to make that happen. We’ll be building upon a lot of what makes Cover great, and we’re thrilled to create something even better at Twitter.
So what does this mean for the Cover app? For now, Cover will remain available in the Play Store while we focus our attention on our work at Twitter. If that changes down the road, we’ll provide another update here.
