Picture of the day: LED-based Hammerhead guides cyclists
The Hammerhead – “Bike Navigation. That just works” – is an LED-based bit of kit for mounting on your handlebar that works with an associated app to incorporate social elements to cycle navigation.
So, as well as visual instructions to complete a journey, it can do such things as suggest crowd sourced-paths. It uses Bluetooth Smart to communicate with your smartphone.
Hammerhead is a brilliantly smart and elegant tool to guide you while biking. Get the information that you need through the corner of your eye, and keep your eyes safely on the road. It simply works. Discover the world around you on the bike. Create great routes and share them with the community. Compete in real time. Enjoy the ride.
One question is Why should I not just mount my phone on my bike? Several good reasons Smartphones aren’t designed to be mounted on a bike. They are expensive, delicate, and their screen will kill their battery extremely quickly. Bike phone mounting hardware is expensive. Trying to operate a smartphone while biking is dangerous.
Estimated ship date is May 2014, and it will work with iOS – Android plans are still in the pipeline.
