LED news and insight from our technology editor Steve Bush, who has been messing with LED lighting for more years than he would care to remember.
Lumileds to show Luxeon R for street and industrial lighting
Lumileds has launched Luxeon R, a lighting LED designed for outdoor and industrial applications such as streetlights, high-bay lights, wall packs and bollards, writes Steve Bush.
For these uses, the colour rendering/efficacy trade-off is set in favour of efficacy, although minimum colouring index is still 70.
The devices are manufactured such that binning is not required.
SDCM (standard deviation colour matching) is <5 – good enough for outdoor and industrial use, though differences could be noticed in consumer or office lighting.
The LEDs are tested and specified at 85°C, minimum flux is 160-200 lm, and colour temperatures of 3,000, 4,000, 5,000, 5,700 and 6,500K are available.
Typical efficacy is 128 lm/W, except in 3,000K and 4,000K versions which are 105 and 125 lm/W respectively.
Luxeon R is available now and will be shown at Lightfair International in Las Vegas in May.Tags: binning, colour temperatures, favour, industrial lighting, steve bush
