Your Face Is Your Fortune
The Duke, The Waterman’s Arms and the White Cross are not the only reasons to be in Richmond this weekend, you could be one of the first people in the country to buy something by using just your face and your phone.
PayPal is trialing its app called ‘check in’ – at a handful of shops, restaurants and pubs in Richmond.
The process of check in to a retailer sends your photo and name to the retailer.
The retailer charges by clicking on the photo of the buyer and a receipt appears on the buyer’s phone and via email.
PayPal says (they would wouldn’t they) that market research shows a third of customers would rather take their phone than their wallet when they go shopping if they had to choose between the two.
PayPal’s aspiration is that enough retailers will adopt the system by 2016 for people to do just that.
