Intel Drops Face Recognition
Today the Wall Street Journal reveals that Intel will not include face recognition technology in its set-top box.
Actually I thought the new boss had already decided not to launch Intel’s TV service.
The Intel exec responsible for the set-top box told the WSJ that the face recognition technology did not work well in low lighting environments like peoples’ sitting rooms when they’re watching TV.
It could be a face-saver of an excuse because the announcement of the technology caused a flood of 1984—type criticism.
It all makes you realise how collectively mad techies can go in their ivory towers.
