Fable: The Commercialisation Of Inspiration

There was once a company which did something remarkably clever.

When the whole of the semiconductor industry made transistors out of germanium, the company made a transistor out of silicon.

What’s more the company got the silicon transistor to market in the same year it was invented.

This gave the company a three year lead on the market.

Moral: Commercialisation is as important as inspiration.

That would have been my employer, Texas Instruments, in 1954. (I was too young for employment in those days, however!)
