Fable: The Salesman Who Turned Down An Order
Half a century ago a Japanese businessman took an order for 100,000 radios from a US company called Bulova.
However the US company imposed one condition - they wanted the radios branded with their name.
The Japanese businessman refused the condition.
The president of the US company said: “No one in this country has ever heard of your company. Our brand has a world reputation with 50 years of history behind it.”
“50 years ago how many people knew your name?” replied the Japanese businessman, “we’re in the same position as you were in then, and this is the first of our 50 years. In 50 years we’ll have made our name as famous as yours.”
And, it was.
Moral: Never sell yourself short
