Fable: When US Socialism Was The Answer
Once upon a time a country’s semiconductor industry ran into trouble and it turned to its government for help.
One politician lambasted the industry’s execs: “Most of them are right-wing – basically against any government intrusion – but when they get into trouble then they come to us for bailout.’
One of the country’s leading newspapers snidely observed that the plea for help “hardly evokes the industry’s history of rugged independence.”
However the government agreed to help and a consortium was formed and the industry regained its competitiveness and became the country’s most valuable export industry.
