Ruminations on the electronics industry from David Manners, Senior Components Editor on Electronics Weekly.
Lady head honchos are a rarity in the IC business, one thinks of Weili Dai of Marvell, Maria Marced of TSMC and Christine King of AMI and SMSC but is pushed to think of many more. But there’s an emerging star.
Dr Lisa Su, recently appointed COO of AMD “responsible for all product strategy, execution, sales, and day-to-day operations,” is tipped to be the next CEO.
Su is credited with AMD’s growing relationship with ARM and with AMD’s SeaMicro acquisition.
She spent four years at Freescale and 13 at IBM.
“Lisa has been a driving force in AMD’s recent success,” says AMD CEO Rory Read, “as COO she will expand on this foundation and lead a broader organisation designed to more quickly adapt to industry shifts, streamline execution and decision making.”
