50 years ago this was a headline in Electronics Weekly’s edition of January 25th 1961.
The story opens:
‘During the first 10 months of 1960 factory sales of transistors by US manufacturers averaged 10 million units a month, valued at nearly £9 million a month.’
‘Between January and October last year, almost 102 million transistors were sold by US manufacturers. This compares with an estimated production figure of 15 million transistors by British manufacturers during 1960.’
