Ruminations on the electronics industry from David Manners, Senior Components Editor on Electronics Weekly.
Sow’s Ears, Ugly Ducklings and Lipsticked Pigs
Reuters has an interesting yarn about Intel swishing a scythe in its marketing department.
Wouldn’t have happened under the previous CEO who was a marketing man.
But the new CEO is a manufacturing guy.
When things screw up it’s always the damn fools in the other departments who are to blame.
If the chips don’t get designed in time or the processes don’t get ramped on time then the obvious thing to do, if you’re a manufacturing man, is to blame the marketing department.
Mind you the marketing people with their ultra-books with their slogan ‘inspired by Intel’ when everyone knows they’re inspired by Apple, and their clunky two-in ones, and their contra-revenues and their ludicrous mis-naming of process nodes have a lot to answer for.
So a brace of vp heads rolling among 40 departing marketing types will not cause much dismay.
Reuters reports that marketing’s morale at Intel is at an ‘all-time low’ while the CEO wants Intel’s ‘coolness’ back.
Wishful thinking that. Silk purse, sow’s ear; ugly duckling, swan; lipstick, pig; that sort of thing.Tags: Intel, Lipsticked Pigs Reuters, marketing department
