MediaTek Senses Opportunity
Although TSMC is said to be so short of capacity that customers are offering to pay 5% extra to secure contracted wafers, its Hsinchu City neighbour MediaTek has managed to get its normal 100k 28nm wafers per quarter allocation upped to 110K for Q3, reports DigiTimes.
In Q4 the allocation is said to be even bigger as China rolls out LTE.
And with Qualcomm looking slightly stymied in China as the authorities swing into Stop Qualcomm mode, MediaTek may be sensing an opportunity to steal share.
