‘The Apple of China’ is the local name for the China-based smartphone vendor Xiaomi, says Will Strauss at Forward Concepts.
Xiamo means ‘Small Rice’ in Chinese and the company shipped nearly 20 million smartphones last year and plans to ship 60 million phones this year and 100 million next year.
Apparently the company’s Hongmi phone, meaning Hot Rice, and its M3 phone were among the top ten best-selling phones in China in February and Xiaomi is moving into Singapore and South America.
It’s just launched a 7.9 inch tablet with 2,048 x 1,536 resolution which sells for $240 in China compared to $462 for an iPad Mini.Tags: china, Hot Rice, Will Strauss, Xiaomi
