Virata Corporation, the semiconductor and software firm, has opened a new European headquarters in the Cambridge Science Park.
The company was founded in Cambridge in 1993 as a spin out from the former Olivetti research laboratory.
Virata’s new Cambridge facility is the largest of the company’s six worldwide sites, and will act as a centre for communications, semiconductor and software development.
Charles Cotton, CEO of Virata, said: “The opening of this superb new facility marks a very special day for our Cambridge-based team whose expertise has helped propel Virata to its current market-leading position.”
Virata was recently voted “Business of the Year” in the Business Weekly East of England Business Awards 2000. The company has 160 customers including, Cisco, Ecrisson and Toshiba. The company’s revenues for 2000 were £84m compared to £8m for the calendar year before.
