China enlists Taiwan in 5G push

According to Taiwan’s Commercial Times today, China has asked Taiwanese companies MediaTek and Hon Hai to join it in developing 5G.

The offer came, it is reported, from Liu Lihua, deputy minister at China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

China’s largest telecoms infrastructure supplier, Huawei, has said it will introduce 5G in 2020.

5G will deliver 10Gbps, says Huawei – 100x the 100Mbps of 4G.

China is expecting to start 4G services later this year.
