Digi-Key expands European customer-facing sales team
Digi-Key is expanding its direct sales team in Europe, including the UK.
The online distributor has added five customer-facing sales staff in Europe including Central and Southern Europe, the Nordic Region, the Baltics and the UK.
“Digi-Key has seen tremendous growth worldwide, up over 12 percent in Europe alone,” said Chris Beeson, vice-president, global sales and business development at Digi-Key.
“This bucks the industry trend with traditional distributors reporting an increase of only one or two percent,” said Beeson.
The company says it is seeing increased demand from its growing customer base for local support within each region of Europe.
Digi-Key set up its first European sales offices last year in the UK and Germany.
”We have decided to get feet on the ground in Europe, we will build an organisation in the UK and Germany,” said Mark Larson, president of Digi-Key.
The online distributor has seen its short-order production sales to small and medium-sized manufacturers grow significantly in the US and now it is bringing this business to Europe.
”We feel there is potential to grow the small order, high mix production business, and we believe to capitalise on the production business requires a personal level of engagement,” said Larson.
This will see the online distributor competing more than ever with volume order specialists Arrow and Avnet.
”We have decided to take advantage of our breadth of product offering and move into the low volume high product mix production area,” said Larson.
“Our model is gaining traction among global buyers and, in response, we are aligning resources to address increasing demand for fast, efficient delivery of electronic components,” added Beeson.
Digi-Key’s new team members are: Ian Wallace – Sales Director UK & Ireland, Ben Brookes – Area Business Development Manager – UK North, Stefan Wihlgaard – Nordic and Baltics Regional Director, Vincenzo Purgatorio – South Europe and North Africa Regional Director, Arkadiusz Rataj – Area Business Development Manager – Eastern Europe and Turkey, and Christian Frenzel – Area Business Development Manager – Central Europe North.
