Electronica: RFMD to buy CMOS RF chip firm Amalfi
RF Micro Devices has agreed to acquire Amalfi Semiconductor, a supplier of CMOS RF and mixed-signal chips for entry-level smartphones in a cash deal valued at $47.5m.
RFMD intends to brings it global marketinfg and in-house manufacturing scale to bear to promote adoption of the California-based fabless chip firm’s RF CMOS and mixed-signal ICs.
“Amalfi’s proprietary RF and mixed-signal expertise in RF CMOS are a great fit for RFMD and a strong addition to our long-term technology strategy,” said Bob Bruggeworth, president and CEO of RFMD.
“RFMD gives Amalfi the global presence, market credibility, manufacturing scale, and blue–chip customer access to take their business to the next phase of growth,” said Bruggeworth.
According to Mark Foley, CEO and president of Amalfi: “The addition of Amalfi’s RF CMOS power amplifier technology with RFMD’s market leadership and significant resources is a powerful combination.”
