Ericsson is making a go of the modem business it re-patriated from ST-Ericsson when the jv was wound up last year, reports Bloomberg.
1,800 ST-E engineers were re-hired by Ericsson after the collapse of the jv. The particular strength of the Ericsson contribution to the jv was modem technology.
The re-patriated unit expects its first sales in the second half of this year.
The unit’s first product came out in Q4 and is being designed into a tier one smartphone vendor, says Ericsson.
Robert Puskaric, an 18 year Ericsson veteran who has been on the company’s leadership team for four years, is now running the modem unit.
