Renesas reshapes Asic and SoC business for profit

“The Asic and SoC business is not as profitable as the analogue or microcontroller businesses and we plan to create a better business out of it,” said European CEO, Rob Green

MIPS Technologies has joined the Renesas Electronics system-on-chip (SoC) partner programme.

This will support Renesas existing licences for MIPS64 processor cores including the MIPS32 74KTM, 24KETM and 4KETM cores.

“Renesas Electronics is a long-time and important MIPS licensee,” said Gideon Intrater, v-p of marketing, MIPS Technologies.

It is for the development of SoC devices targeting home audio-visual designs.

“We’re very pleased to welcome MIPS Technologies to our SoC Partner Program in support of our SoC products for the digital home,” said Tomohisa Arai, general manager in the SoC business unit at Renesas Electronics.
