HP to sack 27,000
HP is to sack 27,000 people among them Mike Lynch, founder of Autonomy, which HP bought for $10bn last year.
Meg Whitman, the CEO of HP who was formerly CEO of eBay and an unsuccessful contestant for the Governorship of California, said: “We are executing against our strategy but still have a lot of work to do.”
Whitman is HP’s third CEO in 12 months after Mark Hurd, who sacked thousands, was fired for sexual malpractice and Leo Apotheker who was also sacked.
HP’s PC business, acquired when former CEO Carly Fiorina bought Compaq, has been hit by tablet sales. HP’s tablet was a disaster.
Last year Tom Perkins,co-founder of Silicon Valley’s top VC firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers and a long-term board member of HP, said that the HP board was: “The worst board in the history of business.”
