iPhone 5 costs $8 to manufacture
It costs $8 to manufacture an iPhone 5. That’s after $199 has been spent on its components, according to IHS.
IHS says that the BOM for the cheapest iPhone 5 – the 16GB version – is $199 which rises to $207 when the price of assembling it is factored in. The 32GB version has a BOM of $209 and the BOM for the 64GB version is $230,
Two different models of the phone had to be made to accommodate different carriers.
Samsung makes the apps processor on the same 32nm process used for the 4S.
On the iPhone 5, the RF transceiver is integrated into the baseband processor.
