MediaTek buys Coresonic
Taiwanese wireless chip-set maker MediaTek has bought eight year-old Coresonic of Sweden which develops DSP cores for wireless baseband applications.
The deal comes a year after MediaTek licensed Coresonic’s SIMT DSP architecture.
“With its smaller footprint and higher degree of scalability, it facilitates very effective high-performance baseband designs,” said MediaTek at the time of the licensing deal.
Coresonic, a VC-backed spin-out from Linkoping University, describes its DSP core as “a new type of switch-based DSP capable of massive OFDM symbol processing, aimed at LTE, TD-LTE, LTE-A, HSPA+, WLAN, DVB-T/S/C, T-DMB, ISDB-T, ATSC, DAB, DAB+, DMB and more.
