MediaTek stars in apps processor market
The smartphone applications processor market grew 44 percent year-on-year to reach $4.4 billion in Q2 2013, according to Strategy Analytics, with Qualcomm, Apple, MediaTek, Samsung and Spreadtrum the top five players.
The tablet applications processor market grew 46 percent to reach $759 million in Q2 2013.
In smartphone apps processors, Qualcomm had 53 percent revenue share followed by Apple with 15 percent share and MediaTek with 11 percent share in Q2 2013.
MediaTek and Spreadtrum together captured over one-third volume share in the smartphone applications processor market in Q2 2013, thanks to the smartphone boom in emerging markets.
In tablets aps processors, the top five were Apple, Samsung, MediaTek, Intel and Qualcomm.
Apple had 34 percent revenue share in Q2 2013, followed by Samsung and MediaTek, each with close to 10 percent revenue share. Samsung had a narrow lead over MediaTek in Q2 2013.
