NAND down, forecast up at Toshiba
Toshiba has bounced back from the earthquake to forecast annual sales of $81bn and an operating profit of $3.75bn for the year to the end of March 2013 – a 45% rise on last year’s profits.
However, for the April-June quarter, Toshiba made a loss of $154m on sales of $16bn.
TV sales were a big negative, and the quarter saw ‘a particularly large decline’ in NAND prices said vp Makoto Kubo. On the other hand, sales of the rest of the electronics devices division stayed firm.
Toshiba is looking for growth to its ‘social infrastructure’ business which makes products such as nuclear power plants, lifts and medical systems.
