Semi sales down 1.3% in February, says SIA.

February’s semiconductor revenues of $22.9bn were 1.3% down on January’s, according to the SIA. American sales grew 1.1% but slower sales in Europe and

 

Month-on-month, Europe saw a 1.9% decline in sales, while Japan and Asia Pacific each experienced 1.8% declines.

 

“Overall, the combination of improved US macroeconomic factors along with sequential semiconductor sales growth in the Americas region warrants an optimistic view for growth in 2012,” says SIA president Brian Toohey.

 

With a continued macroeconomic recovery, semiconductor sales are expected to improve this year thanks to growing demand, says the SIA.

 

Year-on-year the February 2012 sales figure was 7.3% down on February 2011. Europe saw the steepest year-over-year drop, with 16%. The Americas declined 5.4%, Japan 6.1% and Asia Pacific–which accounts for about half the global market – 6%.
