Sustainable technology drives growth, says MP
Manufacturers of sustainable energy systems are important for the UK’s economic growth, according to Kate Green, MP.
Speaking at the opening of the new head office of sustainable engineering firm Vickers Electronics, the MP for Trafford and Urmston, said the sustainable engineering sector was vital to national prosperity.
“Manufacturers in this knowledge-based sector drive success on a number of levels because they enable other businesses to reduce their carbon footprint, as well as driving down energy costs, which can only be good for the UK generally,” said Green.
Vickers, which supplies heating control systems for commercial or industrial buildings, has expanded its Manchester facility and its workforce will grow by almost 50% before the end of this year. Eight new recruits have joined the business in the last month.
“We are more than doubling the size of our head office because our larger team needs an environment where people can work more productively and effectively,” said Vickers managing director David Hilton.
Vickers’ systems include include a package for energy monitoring, combining AMRs (automatic meter readers) and a software package to collate the data.
Its customers include Stagecoach, Caterpillar, Weetabix, Magnet and Boots.
