TDK-Lambda invests in UK manufacturing facility
TDK-Lambda has made a significant investment in new production equipment at its power supply manufacturing facility in Ilfracombe.
Behind the move are the power module manufacturer’s plans for new product developments.
“We have an aggressive new products development strategy and are continuing to invest in new equipment to increase our capacity and enhance our processes, which further improves our lead-times and overall product reliability,” said Martin Southam, director of marketing at TDK-Lambda EMEA.
Southam estimates it will be possible for the manufacturer to make substantial cost-savings through production process improvements.
The recent introduction of automated glue dispensers into the power supply manufacturer’s two surface-mount lines will be augmented with automated optical inspection (AOI) of screened paste on PCBs.
“Introducing dispensed glue and automated optical paste inspection on our PCB assembly lines will generate a substantial annual saving by eliminating the additional costs associated with touch-up and rework,” said Southam.
In addition to this the company has invested in specialist test equipment, which has been designed and manufactured by the company in the UK.
