UK Design: ByteSnap profile
Winner of the Design Team of the Year Award at the 2011 Elektras, embedded systems development consultancy ByteSnap Design is a UK company with in-house expertise across the whole embedded systems stack.
The team provides consultancy and design services across both hardware and software to companies around the world.
Dunstan Power, director of ByteSnap Design (pictured) sees its breadth of expertise as a key ingredient in the consultancy’s success. “Customers value our ability to see both sides of a design challenge – identifying the underlying issues and engineering solutions that span both hardware and software domains – even when the initial project appears to be solely related to one area.”
Originally a Windows CE specialist, the firm’s software and capability now includes leading software platforms such as embedded Linux and iOS, while the hardware team develops products ranging from tiny low-power eight-bit microcontroller devices for tracking birds, to multicore DSP and Linux boards used in video surveillance.
In 2012 alone, ByteSnap Design designed and developed:
? Electronics and software for GE electric vehicle charging posts for the 2012 Olympic Games
? High performance algorithms for Road Angel iPhone and Android applications
? Low-power, high data rate hardware and software for hydrophones
? An intrinsically safe explosive-gas meter that complied with stringent safety regulations.
In addition to its design consultancy services, ByteSnap Design has developed its own products including:
? SnapUI, a lightweight cross-platform user interface development tool that simplifies implementing internationalisation and debugging of embedded software
? The IEEE 802.15.4-2003-compliant ZMM-01 ZigBee Smart Energy metering and control module
? ZDM-01 development kit.
ByteSnap is a Windows Embedded Silver Partner, an accredited Zigbee Alliance member, Microchip Authorised Design Partner, Digi Embedded Development Partner, and Freescale alliance member.
