Intersil upgrades installed camera base
Intersil has come up with a pair of ICs which upgrade an existing camera installation using co-ax to support HD-class resolution cameras and digital IP signals while maintaining the analogue capability.
The Intersil solution works over 500m. “The secret sauce is the distance of the transmit,” Susan Hardman, senior vice president for analogue and mixed signal at Intersil told EW.
“The reason for doing it is the large amount of infrastructure that needs this upgrade path,” added Hardman.
Intersil calls it the SLOC solution (Security Link Over Co-ax). Sony is the first company to use it as an embedded technology and a dongle-type version will be made available.
SLOC uses two ICs – a transmitter and a receiver designated TW3801 and TW3811 – which cost about $11.
The technology for SLOC came from Intersil’s acquisition of Techwell.
