Up to 150Mbit/s from light bulb
Chinese scientist can deliver up to 150Mbit/s from a light bulb, claims Chinese media.
Led by Professor Nan Chi of Fudan University in Shanhgai, the team has demonstrated communication to four computers from a 1W light bulb, according to the report.
The technology will be on display at the China International Industry Fair in Shanghai.
Having millions of light bulbs already installed across the globe make Li-fi an interesting prospect. However, advocates are tending to gloss over the need for an up-link technology that get data to the bulb fast enough to exploit the obviously high data rates possible from bulb to computer.
Another consideration is how much lighting efficiency will be lost, when power efficiency is the main purpose of LED light bulbs.
