Automotive IGBT driver has built-in secondary PSU
Avago has unveiled an automotive smart gate-drive opto-coupler for automotive power trains, claiming it to be the first to include an integrated fly-back controller to power the secondary-side gate drive.
Called ACPL-32JT, is capable of 2.5A gate drive with a propogation delay of 250ns max.
“The device features an integrated fly-back controller supporting regulated output voltage and a full set of fail-safe IGBT diagnostics, protection and fault reporting in support of automotive functional safety requirements.” said the company, claiming: “It is ideal for use in automotive power train traction inverter, power converter, battery charger, air conditioner and oil pump motor drive for electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.”
The chip is qualified to AEC-Q100 Grade 1, and safety approved to: UL1577, CSA and IEC/EN/DIN EN 60747-5-5.
Input voltage range is 8-18V, and the fly-back converter is regulated to 20V.
Protection includes desaturation sensing, soft IGBT turn-off, under voltage lock-out, and active Miller clamping.
Common-mode rejection is 50kV/µs min.
The SO-16 package has 8mm clearance and creepage, and operating temperature range is -40 to +125C
