Intel looks at wireless charging
IDT is to develop wireless charging chips for Intel.
Together, the firms aim to use the result in reference designs for ultrabooks, all-in-one PCs, phones, and stand-alone chargers.
The wireless link will be close-proximity magnetically coupled resonant circuits.
“We think the ability to have wire-free charging with devices like keyboards, mice, storage devices, cameras and phones will be realised in the near future,” said Intel director of PC growth Gary Huang. “Customers and consumers alike have asked for a fully mobile wireless charging experience, and it is our objective to deliver it through the PC.”
IDT is aiming to sample a receiver chip by the end of this year and the transmitter in the first half of 2013.
