Mentor adds Linux support for multicore processors

Mentor Graphics has added to its support of Linux-based embedded system design in the networking market, writes Richard Wilson.

The design tool firm has selected 6WIND, a supplier of packet processing software for networking and telecoms products, to integrate its 6WINDGate software with its Linux platform.

The collaboration is aimed at embedded developers using multicore Freescale and NetLogic processors.

It is intended to allow packet processing software to be scaled across multiple cores without the need to rewrite or re-verify their application software.

The 6WINDGate product is compatible with standard Linux APIs, so developers can migrate standard Linux applications to new platforms without redesigning or rewriting existing software, easing the transition from single to multicore platforms.
