On Semiconductor has introduced a series of white LED boost converters that drive up to five white LEDs in series for colour LCD display illumination used in digital cameras and mobile phones.
The NCP5007 and NCP5006 devices operate as a DC-DC boost converter that regulates the current through the LED string. Dimming is accomplished by applying a pulse width modulated signal (PWM) to change the average output current.
Available in SOT23-5 package the devices incorporate built-in over-voltage protection that can remove the need for an external zener diode, says the supplier.
Input voltage range is 2.7V to 5.5V.
