Emerson Network Power has introduced a digitally-controlled 500W ac-dc power supply with a power density of 0.7W per cubic centimetre.
The Astec NTS503 power supply has measures10.2 x 17.8cm. A convection-cooled model has an output of 200W and a height of 3.8cm, making it suitable for 1U (4.4 cm high) rack-mount chassis. The fan-cooled version can deliver its full rated output of 500W up to 50 deg C with 30 CFM forced air. Both versions accommodate a wide ambient operating temperature range of 0 to 70 deg C.
The ac-dc power supplies generate a regulated 12V output that can be used to directly power boards fitted with multiple non-isolated point-of-load (POL) dc-dc converters. The convection cooled model can deliver up to 16.6A, and the forced-air version can deliver up to 41.7A.
Both versions also provide an auxiliary 'always-on' regulated 5Vdc at 2A output for applications that require standby operation, as well as a 12V output for powering fans.
