Maxim Integrated Products introduces the MAX7359 2-wire interfaced, low-EMI key-switch controller that detects multiple key press and release events on up to 64 keys.
To provide such event detection, this device generates and stores individual key codes in a FIFO register for each press and release to allow the monitoring of multiple key-switch events.
To minimize total system cost, the MAX7359 reduces the burden of software development, and integrates debounce circuitry that eliminates the need for shift registers and RC filters. A cost-effective and easy-to-use solution for detecting multiple key presses and releases, the MAX7359 is ideal for smartphone keypads, gaming controls, and any other portable applications that require multiple key-entry detection.
The MAX7359 maximizes battery life by minimizing power consumption through an autosleep mode. For added flexibility, it provides up to seven open-drain logic outputs that can be configured to drive LEDs. Additionally, to ensure low-EMI operation, the MAX7359's key inputs are statically, not dynamically, monitored.
Available in a small, 3.5mm x 3.5mm, 24-pin TQFN package, the MAX7359 is fully specified over the -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius extended temperature range. Prices start at $1.70 (1000-up, FOB USA).
