The RF Solutions 'Typhoon' RF modem comes in a tough IP68 rated ABS enclosure with an RS232 cable and an 868MHz quarter wave whip antenna. It runs from a 9 to 12V dc (1A maximum) power supply.
Care has been taken to match the antenna to the impedance of the RF module's power amplifier, which helps to achieve a range of up to 4km.
The 'Typhoon' does not require a licence to operate and can be configured to scan the radio link for activity and verify it is free before transmission, thereby avoiding data collisions.
Expected applications include wireless data logging, CCTV control, RS232 or RS485 serial cable replacement, and machine-to-machine data communications.
It is also configurable as a 'transparent' wireless serial point-to-point link, reproducing the function of a half duplex serial cable. An addressed secured mode is also supported.
All parameters of the serial connection and radio modem are fully configurable in software using the Hayes AT command set. Commands are entered via the serial port from a host using communications software (for example a PC and Microsoft Windows HyperTerminal).
