Fairchild Semiconductor claims to have simplified power management design with a dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) platform based on its FAN5355, 800mA/1000mA 3MHz buck converter with a digitally programmable output voltage.
Typical quiescent current in PFM mode is 37[micro]A and it features lower ripple during PFM mode, reducing system noise and improving light load efficiency to 85 per cent even at loads of only 1mA.
For more moderate to heavy loads, careful optimisation of the power train contributes to a conversion efficiency of more than 90 per cent during PWM mode.
There is an I2C interface for dynamically adjusting the digital core's power supply voltage based on the processor workload.
The FAN5355’s digitally programmable output voltage has a range of 0.75V to 1.975V and can be adjusted in 12.5mV increments.
It is available in 3x3mm MLP packaging and 12 bump, 0.5mm pitch WL-CSP packaging.
