Renesas Technology's SH72544R SuperH1 microcontrollers are designed for use in automotive engine and transmission control systems.
The device features high-speed operation up to 200MHz and 2.5Mbyte of fast, high-capacity on-chip flash memory. Sample shipments will begin during July 2008.
The SH72544R incorporates the same SH-2A high-performance CPU core as the SH72546RFCC. This core, having a superscalar design and Harvard architecture, achieves 400 MIPS at 200MHz operation.
Capable of precise high-level real-time control of engine and transmission systems, the microcontroller can operate at ambient temperatures up to 125 deg C.
Power consumption is specified as less than 900mW even when operating at 200MHz in a temperature of 125 deg C.
There is also 128kbyte of flash memory with functions essentially the same as EEPROM for data storage.
The company's fast flash technologies are designed to increase the speed of the flash memory and a low-power cache system to optimise the use of flash memory. "Performance is essentially equal to single-cycle access at 200MHz," said the company.
