Abacus Group has added a Shielded Compact Ribbon (SCR) interconnect system to its list of I/O connectors.
The system from 3M offers designers a flexible and robust alternative to IEEE1394 and D-Sub miniature connectors and increased cable to cable inline extension.
The SCR system, which is built around a ribbon style contact interface for reliable repetitive plug/unplug applications, consists of a selection of 10-pin shielded I/O connectors and accessories. The system has been designed to carry up to 1A per pin signal or power, facilitating greater flexibility in the location of power supplies in applications such as printers, card readers cameras and external hard drives.
The 10 pin SCR system is similar in form factor to popular IEEE 1394 “firewire” connectors, yet offers increased signal carrying capacity. The new vibration resistant interconnect system is available in boardmount right angle through-hole male plug and vertical surface mount male plug or in male and female wiremount variations.
Devices in the range terminate up to 18 AWG wire, providing longer haul attenuation than narrower gauge wire. All SCR connectors are metal shielded for increased resistance to EMI and RFI, and backshell kits provide added robustness as well as shielding
effectiveness.
